Gaskets are mechanical seals that fill the space between two or more mating surfaces, typically to prevent leakage from or into the joined surfaces while under compression. Gaskets compensate for “less-than-perfect” mating surfaces. Temperature and environments of the application are used to select the correct material and design of the gasket.
There are several processes or combination of processes that can be utilized to produce gaskets. Contributing factors considered in choosing the manufacturing process include tolerances, quantities, and the material. Some common manufacturing processes for gaskets consist of die-cut, waterjet cut, knife cut, laser cut, and molded.
